The first in our run of Thursday nights featuring artists with tracks exclusive to a forthcoming compilation in collaboration with Severn Songs & Bristol Beer Factory.
Fusing the sounds of folk and neo-soul with sharp, relatable lyrics, ZENA has become an ever growing talent on the South-West music scene. With her value placed in poignant and honest lyricism and a love for experimentation with instrumental arrangement and genre mixing, ZENA finds power in connecting with audiences through performance.
As well as being a mainstay of the Galli stage for some time now, She’s also performed at popular Bristol venues such as Thekla and The Fleece, as well as a range of festivals that includes ValleyFest, Victorious Festival and AnExperience Festival. ZENA has three singles out on streaming services, including her whimsical country and pop inspired debut release ‘The Bedbugs’, written about growing bored of meaningless routine. She’s inspired by artists such as Lianne La Havas and Lily Allen.
ZENA says: “Where The Dead Things Lay was written about trying to leave a traumatic situation behind you. I found an abusive relationship I had in my teenage years creeping into my new endeavours upon moving to Bristol, and found myself struggling to shake embedded beliefs about myself and what healthy love is meant to feel like that were rooted in a previous life. It’s a song about frustration and anger, about carrying undeserved baggage.”
‘Something In The Water’ is realeased 28/11/2025; available for preorder now via Severn Songs bandcamp (link in our bio).
‘Where The Dead Things Lay’ by ZENA is out now.
